Digambar Jain Boarding situated in kolhapur’s dasara chowk is first of its kind which was established in 1905. Kind hearted his highness chaatrapati shahu maharaj of Kolhapur kildy donated land for this boarding and the then visionary leader of Jain community Manikachand Hirachand Javeri of Mumbai was kind enough to donate for construction of building for this boarding house. Diwan Bahaddur of Royal dynasty of Kolhapur and one of the founders of Dakshin Bharat Jain Sabha, Annasaheb Latthe was the first superintendent of this boarding house. As well Dr. A. N. Upadhye, Veerachary Babasaheb Kuchnure and Many other Emanuel personalities administered this Jain Boarding very efficiently. This boarding was administrative & cultural centre for the south India Jain community for many years. Only because of this boarding number of Jain students from south Maharashtra & north Karnataka received their education at Kolhapur in esteemed educational institutes.

Well known educationalist Dr. Karmveer Bhaurao Patil was student of this boarding. This boarding started with 20 rooms, one cultural hall, club system mess, temple, superintendent residence. Admistrators took up construction of additional rooms as number of student increased year after year.

At present 80 rooms for students’ administrative wing, guest rooms, mess, gymnasium, Library museum hall, temple etc. today 210 students of different faculty are residing in this boarding house and receiving this education.

This boarding is not only residence for the students but it is cultural and spiritual centre for them. Authorities of the boarding take care of the students for their all round development of personality.
